Draw the Notan Way

  • Ayres House Studios Wallingford, England, OX10 0JZ United Kingdom (map)

Notan is a Japanese concept and means the pattern of lights and darks.

By drawing tonally the artist is able to develop an exciting style and drama to their drawing. Lin Kerr developed this course during the pandemic for her art group and the artists improved their drawing skills dramatically. Some of her students had not done any drawing since primary school and they were amazed at their results. Lin uses a mix of ‘right side of the brain techniques (Betty Edwards) with her own Notantechniques and adds fabulous mark making.

17 Oct-14 Nov 2024 - 5 weeks

16 Jan-13 Feb 2025 - 5 weeks

(Two different courses which are not consecutive)

Each week there will be a short slide show of about 10 minutes. As it is Winter and we all need to get out, chat and socialise, there will be home-made cake and lovely coffee to create a Warm Space! This is a friendly accepting group that welcomes all levels of ability from those who say ‘I can’t draw’ to those who say ‘I love drawing’.

There will be two 2-hourly courses, each lasting 5 weeks on Thursdays 10.30 - 12.30 from 17 Oct - 14 Nov 202 and 16 Jan - 13 Feb 2025. They will be different and may be done in either order.

Cake and coffee are free, and you will need your own materials.

£80 per course

This course is limited to 10 people.
