Hong Li - Watercolours
Hong has been an art enthusiast throughout his life and has been living in Oxfordshire since 2001.Trained as a biologist, he is a self-taught traditional watercolourist, where light and shadow are the central themes of his paintings. Hong became an eager hobby artist after moving to Oxfordshire, where the unique sceneries of the county have been a constant source of inspiration. In each piece of his work, Hong endeavours to capture the subtle nuances and dramatic contrasts found in nature and everyday life.
Hong’s artistic journey is complemented by a career in science. He studied Biology at university, after which he obtained a PhD in Microbiology and later became a professor of Environmental Sciences. In his career, Hong worked in research and teaching at Oxford University and other UK and Chinese universities and research institutions, including the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology.
He has recently retired from his professional career in science and now enjoys spending his free time pursuing painting and travelling with family and friends.
