Traditional Upholstery Specialist

An experienced Upholsterer for over 27 years, Gareth is versed in many areas of furniture making, from Upholstery to cabinet work.

Having worked in many workshops as a bench trained upholsterer, Gareth began teaching in 2016. In 2017 he was one of the founders of the well respected British School of Upholstered Furniture in Oxfordshire, often regarded as one of the best places to study in the UK. It is here that he manages and teaches the AMUSF diploma.

Gareth is a Certificated member of the Guild of Traditional Upholsterers and past Chairman, he currently serves the role of Vice Chair.

Gareth not only teaches at the British School of Upholstered Furniture, but also teaches for Upholstery Education in the USA where he is also course writer for all of their educational programs. He has lectured widely online, specifically through the 2020/21 lockdowns on furniture history.

In March of 2023 Gareth was awarded the prestigious Master Upholders Award by the Worshipful Company of Upholders. He is one of only a select few to have been given the award which honours an individuals dedication to the trade through practice and teaching.

Gareth also offers tuition to those with some experience, with the aim of improving handskills and understanding of practice. This tuition is offered in the form of small group continual development classes or private tuition, which is student led, focusing on individual requirements.
