Margaret Godel

After a career in academia, Margaret Godel became a student again, graduating with an MA in Contemporary Art from Oxford Brookes University. Some years later she went to study weaving with master weaver, Philip Sanderson, at the famous Tapestry Studio, at West Dean College of Arts and Crafts. She emerged with a strong sense of tapestry as an expressive medium, and a fascination for its techniques and sculptural possibilities.

Margaret likes nothing better than researching and experimenting with historical and contemporary weaving practices. The nature of her creative process means that emerging work often feels familiar yet minimal. However, it can also incorporate elements of ambiguity, and be somewhat unsettling occasionally.

She has curated shows for Fringe Arts Bath, and, as well as being associated with Ayres House Studios in Wallingford, is a member of Biddy Boost, a group of Oxfordshire based older women artists.
