Penny Astrop
Penny Astrop makes paintings and drawings from life and imagination, to depict atmosphere and arouse curiosity. She works with colour and texture to animate the work. Life drawing has been a regular pursuit for many years, and she attended as many life classes she could fit in, alongside a busy and stressful career. Since moving away from paid work, Penny has focussed more and more on her artistic and creative interests. Her works are based on observation and interpretation of what she sees and feels, at home and abroad. Sometimes she will work from memory and then the emotion evoked informs the image. What the curious viewer sees and feels is often, for Penny, the most interesting, sometimes surprising, and always challenging part of making art. Exhibiting to the public for the first time, during Oxfordshire Artweeks 24, Penny was terrified and excited in equal measure. She survived and more positively felt encouraged to carry on developing her work. Penny is delighted to do this in association with Ayres House.
